What are OPALs?
OPALs (Older People with Active Lifestyles) are residents of the Ohio Valley 55 years and older who are active and want to remain active. This organization is designed to help you maintain your vitality and a healthy lifestyle.
What is the goal of OPALs?
To provide education and experiences that promotes a healthy lifestyle for Ohio Valley Residents.
What does membership in OPALs Offer?
Members enjoy a wide range of benefits including: free parking, once a year free cholesterol screening, educational programs, free exercise classes, organized day and multi-day trips, social activities, discounts at hospital gift shop and cafeteria, and subscription to bi-monthly newsletter.
How do I go about participating in one of the exercise classes or traveling on a trip?
If you are interested in joining one of the exercise classes call the OPALs office and request that an exercise participation packet be sent to you. Once you have completed the health information form and your physician has signed the consent form, return these forms to the OPALs office to arrange a time to begin the class. A yearly update of this information is necessary for you to continue participating in the exercise class. To join us for an advertised OPALs trip, simply call the reservation line. The trips usually fill up quickly so don"t delay in calling. After you have called and reserved your seat, a reminder card will be mailed to you about two weeks before payment is due. Then 1-2 weeks before the trip the itinerary and an emergency contact/release form is mailed to you.
How do I become an OPAL?
You must complete a membership application and submit it to the OPALs office. After your application is processed, usually 4-6 weeks, you will receive an OPALs membership card.
How much does is cost to join OPALs?
The OPALs program is sponsored by Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital, which enables membership to remain FREE!
