Respiratory and Occupational Lung Disease Clinic

The staff of the Respiratory and Occppational Lung Disease Clinic is here to teach you ways to cope with your breathing problems. We can provide you with information, counseling, and referrals on Black Lung benefits, Worker’s Compensation claims, community resources, arthritis programs, home equipment, and advice on how to quit smoking.

Who is eligible?

Our services are for adults who have breathing problems caused by Black Lung and other occupational lung diseases, asbestosis, silicosis, farmer’s lung, etc. Other lung problems such as asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, are also treated.

Clinic goals:

  • Diagnosis of your breathing problem and your impairment level.
  • Education on normal breathing, lung techniques to relieve shortness of breath and congestion.
  • Exercise.
  • Treatment for lung diseases.
  • Benefits counseling and referrals on Black Lung benefits and social services.

Our pulmonary rehabilitation program is intended to work with, not replace, your family physician’s care. We also have periodic Better Breather meetings to assist you. When you have completed the clinic’s program, a copy of your records is sent to your physician to inform him/her of your progress. Ask your physician to refer you or have us contact him/her.

Funding

A grant from the Ohio Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is available to supplement payment for qualifying coal miners and others suffering from occupational lung disease. Eligibility for these funds is based on income. Many insurances also cover the cost of clinic services. Contact the clinic for more information.
